1996 Overview

This was the third summer for Camp Calleva! Campers now have the option of more activities per week and continue to recieve daily instruction in the core activities.

PROGRAM

We now advertise both the "one weeker" and the "nine weeker" as an option for campers!
  • Mountaineering
  • Mountain Biking
  • Fishing
  • Archery (added into core)
  • Field Sports (added to core)
  • Counselors in Training Program (15-year-olds)

This was the first year we were able to run more than one program at THE SAME TIME!!! (thanks to Alex's grid and more staff) We built bleachers for council which was held on the other side of the lake on the Poolesville property!

The Markoff's Haunted Forest was making the transition from Valley Mill (VMC) to the new location, and was offered at both locations. This was the last year VMC was available to us and a bigger and vision was on our horizon. VMC would repackage their version of our Haunted Forest into the "Haunted Trail" and reopen in 2005 - and yes, we were flattered!

Fun Statistics

  • This was the first year a health form was required!
  • We offered two high adventure trips that went to the Linville Gorge and the New River Gorge!
