MEET OUR RACERS
CALLEVA'S ADVENTURE RACE
Team's history: "In 2006 we started an adventure racing team originally called Pain Seekers and later renamed Polaris. We completed 2006 season as one of the top teams on the East Coast and ranked among top 20 teams in the US. We have great teammates and some very ambitious plans for the 2008 season which include competitions all over the United States and possibly Canada. Stay tuned!"
Adventure Race Lengths:
- Sprint: 2-6 hrs, w/ minimal navigation and occasionally involving games or special tests.
- 12-Hour: 6-12hrs, featuring limited navigation and orienteering.
- 24-Hour: 18-30+ hrs, typically involving UTM-based (Universal Trans Mercator) navigation. Often basic rope work is involved (e.g., traverses or rappels). May or may not include support crew.
- Multi-day: 36-48+ hrs race, involving advanced navigation and route choice; sleep deprivation becomes a significant factor.
- Expedition: 3 - 11 day race (or longer), involving all the challenges of a multi-day race, but often with additional disciplines (e.g., horse-back riding, unusual paddling events, extensive mountaineering and rope work).
