About Scuba CLS: We have dived in pools, quarries, beaches, rivers and the British Virgin Islands. Now we are taking it the next level and are exploring wrecks dating from pre-Civil War to WWII around the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Teaming up with Outer Banks Diving and National Dive Center, Calleva expands the scope of underwater exploration. With visibility up to 100 feet and water temperatures between 78 and 85 degrees, students will swim through time in the hopes of finding Blackbeard's treasure or discovering a new wreck. Our itinerary includes up to eight boat dives. When we are exploring the underwater world we will be relaxing and playing on Hatteras's beautiful beaches and exploring the local lighthouse. We will be camping with front row seats to nicest beaches on the Outer Banks. Advanced Diver Scuba certification is preferred, though we can offer advanced certification on this trip. Dive at this chance to join-like minded teens in one of the most spectacular wreck diving areas of the world.

2010 NORTH CAROLINA ITINERARY:

Sun, Aug 25
Meet at Riley's Lock at 10am and drive down to Hatteras, NC.  Set up camp and buy foodfor the week. Go to dive shop and get fitted for wetsuits and get gear-- t anks, regulators, and BCDs Monday-Friday: Each morning we will meet at the Dive boat at 8am to head out for our first 2 dives of the day.  The first dive will usually begin around 10 am after a discussion of what we are seeing, its significance and any hazards to be aware of.  This will be followed by a hearty lunch which may be something on the grill or hoagie sandwiches.  The afternoon dive will be fairly near to the first dive, with some boating involved and may include another wreck, or a different part of the first wreck. Generally, we will return to the docks about 3:30 pm, in time to explore Hatteras Island or chill by the beach.  Wrecks may include the Dixie Arrow or Kassandra Louloudis or other ships dating post civil war to WWII.  Some of these ships naturally sunk after colliding with the rocky shoals around Hatteras and others have been purposefully submerged to help provide artificial reefs for marine life. Which wreck we dive at will be determined by best current, best visabiity and weather conditions.  We will also start out with shallower, easy dives at the beginning of the week and work up to more complicated dives. All dives will be above 100 feet and within the comfort zones and experience of our students.  Students can work on specialty dives as well. One day will be an open day for exploring nearby Okracoke.  That night we may experience a night dive to see how varied marine life is at the nocturnal hours. Saturday- we will pack up camp and head back stopping at some historic, scenic sites such as Kitty Hawk, site of the first successful airplane flight.
