About Surfing CLS The North Carolina Surf trip offers Delaware Surf CLS graduates or students with previous surf experience a chance to enjoy some of the best surfing beaches on the East Coast. Each day will have many hours spent on the beach with the majority of them spent in the ocean catching waves. Students will get personal attention for Calleva's expert Surfing instructors. Part of everyday will be spent learning about the waves we ride and how they allow us to "Hang Ten". Each day we will also put in sometime participating in beach cleanups. Home base will be our beachside campsite near Frisco on Hatteras Island. Our end-of-the-week surfing contest will showcase the new skills we've learned. Expect big surf!

2010 NORTH CAROLINA ITINERARY:

  • Sunday: Depart from Rileys at 11am for OBX(Hatteras). Set up and hang around camp for evening. 
  • Monday: Breakfast. Leave to surf Frisco area. Find lunch. Continue surf. Back to camp for dinner. Games/fire/frisbee 
  • Tuesday: Surf S-turns. One of the best spots on the entire East coast. Swells hit the shelf at a boxy angle, creating the dredging pits that Hatteras is famous for.  li>
  • Wednesday: Surf Nagshead. No longer as famous as the days of yore, Nags Head will have minimal crowds and lots of waves for kids of all surfing ability. 
  • Thursday: Surf Okracoke. Another break that can be near perfection during the summer catching southerly swells from the tropics. A more speedy wave, butmiles of endless beach to find the perfect peak. 
  • Friday: Surf Hatteras Lighthouse. The location of the Eastern Surfing Association championships, Hatteras has fun beach break waves. Drive half way home. 
  • Saturday: Drive the second half of trip and return to Riley's Lock mid-day. 

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Rain does not deter surfing, but if in case of a flat spell or the waves being just too big for the kids there are numerous activities around the area. Endless beach games, Ocean City boardwalk, bike rentals, surf movies, fishing, water parks
