When it's hot - get in the water, but if there's wind - you've got to capture it. Our Hobie Wave's are perfect for campers to get moving in the water. These boats are great for beginners because they will move in the gentlest breeze, and have simple rudders and boomless sails. Did I mention the Instruction! Campers are instructed to get to the point where they don't need a staff member in their boat, and have the skills to get from point A to point B using the WIND! Since Calleva is no longer at National Harbor, our sailing program is going  "old-school" with Level 2 boats loaded on a trailer and visiting various bodies of water, while Level 1 enjoys the many miles of our section of the Potomac River near Riley's Lock.  Campers will now be better at rigging and build a better understanding of their vessel. They will also be spending more time learning to read the various conditions at different locations. Individuals are made into teammates and asked to work together. Much effort goes into team building games and skills. Sailing protocols are drilled to ensure quick responses and of course much fun is had. Racing and obstacle courses, pirating and all sorts of fun keep the days flowing into one memorable week. Level 1 and Level 2 campers learn on 14 foot Hobie Rotomolded Waves and 16 foot Hobie Fiberglass Sailboats.  *** We are no longer based at National Harbor, so the itinerary will be changing.  As of now, Level 1 will be based at Seneca Lake (here at RIley's Lock) and Level 2 will travel to varies bodies of water (old-school)!

Special Consideration:  Campers will be in the sun for the majority of the day and Staff make sure they frequently get in the water to cool themselves down. We ask that parents help us in driving in the point that sun screen must be reapplied every 2 hours. All campers and staff in the water/boat must wear appropriate safety gear at ALL times (PFD)! Calleva provides all safety/technical gear including: Life-Jacket, Boats and rigging, Paddles, & Throw Ropes. Participants may bring their own lifejacket, but gear must first be inspected by Instructor.

2011 Instructors: TBD
