SUMMER CAMP OPEN HOUSE -- May 18, 10am-1pm : all sorts of fun activity demos, including canoeing, climbing, biking and arts & crafts! Cubs, Explorers & Adventure campers can meet their counselors. Stop by for some fun in the sun!
NOTE: JULY 4th week (July 1-5) is a full week of camp for Calleva.
Adventure is abundant at Calleva, and this year we are offering three brand new camps: Grunkan's Adventure, Caving & Adventure Race Camp! We also are splitting the Calleva Leadership School into two challenging tracks for teens: Tony's amazing LIT program and old school High Adventure trips! Since 1993, we have been running quality camps that take kids of all ages to some of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the DC area. Calleva grows individual confidence, group cooperation, outdoor skills and environmental responsibility among its participants. No matter the age of your child, you will not be dissappointed in the Calleva experience!
Calleva is a certified by the Maryland Association of Environmental & Outdoor Educators (MAEOE) as a Green Center and is a Leave No Trace Partner. Calleva is also certified by the American Camp Association.
Cubs (4-5 year olds): Calleva Cubs experience a wide variety of outdoor adventures that help build confidence, creativity, cooperation and appreciation for the great outdoors.
Explorers (6-9 year olds): Why mess with perfection? Well Baldy has! We've added Explorer's Extreme, a new option for older kids! These are full day activities that run within the Explorer program. Available exclusively for 9 year olds that are not ready for the overnights in Adventure Camp, but want to delve deeper into some of our activities.
Adventurers (9-15 year olds): In addition to the wide range of adventure options that have become constants at Calleva, we will be adding a new camp that ties creative building projects to adventure in the woods: Markoff's Haunted Forest Camp!! Also, inspired by our adult Adventure Race Team and the benefits of fitness, adventure, and teamwork - check out our kid version of adventure racing which combines trail and water elements for a fun-filled, challenging course of events. IMPORTANT NOTE: All Adventure Camps culminate with a mandatory Thursday night campout -- the pinnacle of the week for our campers. (See the Adventure Camp page for more details about the overnight!)
Sampler (9-15 year olds): When you just decide on one adventure, why not do them all.... or at least a "best of" package! These weeks are offered at the beginning & end of summer.
HIgh Adventure (12-17 year olds): Some of these trips go all week every week and are for taking it to the next level: Surfing, Sailing, WV High Adventure and Kayaking. And for good measure we will throw in a few Calleva classics like Climb Kentucky.
Calleva Leadership School (13-17 year olds): Our LIT (Leaders in Training) courses are multi-leveled, focusing on the skills your teen needs for success. The courses are progressive, and one must start with the LIT course before going to Advanced LIT and then LIT3!
Campers who have attended any Calleva program would likely identify their successes at camp with Calleva's staff & leadership. Our staff are women and men with years of experience on the river, trail, rock and ocean. They are highly trained in the tools of their trade and love what they do. Best of all, they are gifted teachers who get excited about introducing kids to fun in the outdoors.
