This all-encompassing adventure to West Virginia was Calleva's original summer high adventure trip and it always fills quickly. Our Revised WV HIgh Adventure will include canoeing, rock climbing, rappelling, camping, and possibly caving. The focus is to have fun Calleva style while learning new skills and gaining an aptitude for leadership. We will start the week off with an overnight canoe trip on the South Fork of the Potomac River. After we have mastered our paddling skills we will change gears and climb some cliffs. We head over to Seneca Rocks to master climbing and belaying. Not only will be get a chance to do some climbs but students will participate in a monster rappel off the top of Seneca Rocks. Finally we end the week with our Bonus Adventure! There is no experience necessary, for this week long adventure down in West Virginia, only a keen sense of adventure. Depending on which Bonus Adventure, parents may need to sign waiver for other vendors.

WEST VIRGINIA ITINERARY:  

  • Monday: Meet at Riley's Lock between 6-7am for continental breakfast. Drive to Moorefield, WV.  Overnight Water Adventure (maybe kayaks, canoes, rafts, or duckies) on South fork of the Potomac River. Camp inside gorge, likely bald eagle spottings, and evening wilderness activities.
  • Tuesday:   Continue on Water Adventure. Possible swift water rescue skills at 2nd to last rapid. Midday/afternoon takeout at the public access boat ramp.  Drive to Seneca Shadows Campground. Afternoon/evening activities:  swimming, capture the flag/frisbee on the big fields in the park.
  • Wednesday: Hike to summit of Seneca Rocks for Mountain Adventure. Hike down and over to two-pitch rappel. Afterwards treat the campers to dinner at the Front porch restaurant. Evening activities include field games, and campfire.
  • Thursday:  Bonus Adventure.... See Below.  
  • Friday:   Pack up camp and squeeze in one last climb, swim, or cave before hitting the road! Meet up at Riley's Lock between 6-7pm for dinner and shares. Parents are invited.
  • In addition to the Itinerary, each week will have a BONUS adventure..... Wk 3. Via Ferratta, Wk 5. Rock Climbing, Wk 6. Raft , Wk 7. Backpack, Wk 8. Mtn Bike, Wk 9. Cave, Wk 10. Via Ferratta.

Logistics:

Calleva provides all logistical needs once the trip has started, however parents are responsible for dropping off and picking up students before and after the the trip at Riley's Lock.
