WHITEWATER KAYAK INSTRUCTION
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION: Our home at Riley's Lock is the ideal area for beginner kayaking. Located on t he Potomac River, we use the hottest spots for learning the basics and building a strong foundation. We start by placing you in a suitable boat and teaching you how to outfit it to your liking. Always "wet exits" first and then learning basic paddling skills. Our four class package is designed to make you feel comfortable and confident. The first class leaves you with a basic understanding of paddle strokes, knowing everything about your boat, and being comfortable maneuvering it in flat water. The second class is an introduction to the paddle roll, and possibly some experience in moving water! The third class focuses primarily on small moving water - manuevering your kayak and understanding water. The final class in a beginner package is a river trip, where skills are honed, rapids are scouted, and the kayaker is prepared to meet more whitewater in the Intermediate arena.

HTO CUSTOMERS: If you have purchased a kayak from Hudson Trail Outfitters, you are entitled to a free introductory class from one of our expert instructors. This clinic is designed to give you confidence and independence.We will help you with outfitting your kayak, getting out (upright and upside down), properly maneuvering your watercraft, and securely fastening down your kayak to your vehicle.
