WHITEWATER INTERMEDIATE KAYAKING
ARE YOU AN INTERMEDIATE? You are an intermediate kayaker if you have Paddle Roll on Flatwater and feel pretty comfortable in class II whitewater. We consider you an Advanced Intermediate, when you have a solid Whitewater Paddle Roll in Class III. This is a pretty wide range of skills, and usually is determined by amount of time in a boat.

INTERMEDIATE INSTRUCTION: Welcome to the big league! This is where your journey to becoming a proficiently skilled paddler begins. You've completed our beginner courses and are ready to take on a specific skill or set of skills. Intermediate instruction allows you to build on what you have already learned as well as some new skills to throw into the mix.
INTERMEDIATE CLASSES:
These classes will teach you some of the most important skills that any paddler needs. River rescue techniques will not only help keep yourself safe but will also allow you to predict unsafe situations and know how to deal with them. We will address throw bags, safe swimming techniques, gathering swimmers and gear and more in a scenario based instructional atmosphere. The first class begins with river rescue and safety techniques that are important for any proficient kayaker to know and move onto more specific kayaking techniques. The second class focuses on specialized rolling techniques. At this point a paddler in this class should have a solid roll both in flat water and in combat. The third class is all about surfing, catching and riding that cherry wave. Fourth class is a river trip, a perfect section on the Potomac with just the right amount of challenge.
