CLASSES:
Recreational Package Class I (Riley's Lock @ Seneca Creek)
This first class is designed to get the boater comfortable with his/her boat and to make sure that he/she is comfortable with completing a wet exit. We will paddle up Seneca Creek, learning about the history of the area as we go. We will then paddle back down stream to the Potomac River where everyone will get some exposure to open water. This will prepare you for our next class which will be all out on the river!
Recreational Package Class II (Riley's Lock @ Potomac River)
In this class we will leave the confines of the creek and venture out onto one of the widest spots of the Potomac! Have you ever wondered what lives on the banks of Maryland's greatest river? As we venture up stream to an island we put ourselves in a position to see all sides of mother nature. If you're lucky, your instructor might even give up a few secret fishing spots! After this class you will be very comfortable paddling your boat and have a much greater appreciation of what lies only about 15 miles from our nation's capitol!
Recreational Package Class III (Sycamore Landing to Riley's Lock)
Didn't have enough of the Potomac from the last class? Well you're in luck...this class will focus on putting in some mileage while floating with the current. On the way down stream we will hug the Virginia side exploring islands, tributaries and Algonkian Regional Park. We will finish the trip with the sun at our backs as we pull into Riley's Lock! Still haven't had enough? Well we have one more exciting excursion....
Recreational Package Class IV (Riley's Lock to Pennyfield Lock)
This class is the culmination of everything we have learned in the past 3 classes. We will be putting in some mileage, exploring different locks on the C&O canal, getting a first hand view of uninhabited islands, and even paddling under the C&O canal through a 200 year old aquaduct! Don't forget to bring your binoculars because this section of the Potomac and Pennyfield Lock is famous in birding circles. After this class you will be able to do your own exploring and start your own adventures! SCHEDULING/CALENDAR: Individuals must pre-register for all weekend programming through the Calleva Office.
